How to Start a Saltwater Aquarium

"How to Start a Saltwater Aquarium"," Many have ventured into this pursuit with a significant number of them failing.
'

Being ready for a saltwater aquarium does not only denote the will of the budding aquarist.
It is never good to start a saltwater aquarium half-prepared.
This came as an adaptation to avoid predators and detect prey.
This will help you find what type of saltwater aquarium will be best for you.

You want a reef aquarium with a pair of fishes, a couple of plants, and an invertebrate.
Let us start with the fishes.
Most of the time, they have established territories and hiding places.
What you will need is, at the very least, 5 gallons of water for every inch of fish.
' The best bet for most fishes is 55 gallons.

Now, you want another fish.
A lot of differing fishes live together in the same niche; therefore, territories overlap.
' Putting fishes of the same species in a single tank will yield disastrous results.
Have this in mind every time you want to add a fish in your tank.
 Plants are quite simple creatures.
Proper lighting means about three to five watts of lighting per gallon of water in your tank.
Give them lighting lesser than three watts per gallon and the plants stop synthesizing and start withering.
Oxygenation not only helps your fishes breathe but also encourages the nitrification process.
If you really want one (or a couple) you will need calcium supplements as they need this to make their exoskeletons.
They are also very sensitive to low pH levels and may die if unaided.

The next part of being ready is getting prepared for any challenge that will come along.
Be prepared for those and you are set to start your very own saltwater aquarium.

Are Saltwater Aquariums Hard? - Five Things That Can Make Keeping a New Saltwater Tank Difficult

"Are Saltwater Aquariums Hard? - Five Things That Can Make Keeping a New Saltwater Tank Difficult"," It is also a question that has many answers depending on many things, things that are often controllable by the person planning the tank.

Things That Can Make Saltwater Aquariums Hard To Keep

Buying Small Tanks- If this is your first attempt at keeping a marine aquarium you should buy a tank that is at least 30 gallons or larger.

Unknowingly Keeping Difficult Fish- One huge and common beginner saltwater aquarium mistake is to buy marine fish for your tank that will not survive in captivity or fish that are very delicate.

Setting It Up Like a Freshwater Tank- Many people think they can setup their new saltwater tank just like a freshwater tank.
This is a recipe for disaster and sick fish.

Constant Tinkering With The Tank- Another common mistake many people make with a new marine aquarium is to always have their hands in the tank re arranging the decoration and things like that.

Adding To Many Fish To Fast- Overstocking is a sure fire way to have saltwater fish that are stressed, fighting and dieing.
Add the new fish slowly waiting about a week between new additions, adding them to fast can over whelm a new aquarium system and an ammonia spike could occur and kill all of your saltwater fish.

Starting a Saltwater Fish Aquarium - You Must Read This Saltwater Aquarium Advice

"Starting a Saltwater Fish Aquarium - You Must Read This Saltwater Aquarium Advice"," While the things that a new tank keeper can do wrong is long there is a few common things that most people do that could jeopardize their saltwater fish but are very easy to avoid with some good saltwater aquarium advice.
This will surely lead to disaster because the tanks nitrifying bacteria has not yet reached high enough levels to neutralize toxic ammonia in the tank.
If you are using cured  liverock in your tank (which you should be) you can add a fish after a few days.

To make the wait between fish seem shorter buy a good saltwater aquarium guide and study up on some fish you like and narrow down your choices to your favorites.
While this may make you feel good it is stressing your fish out badly.
So by letting your tank be and letting your saltwater fish adjust to their new home you will increase your chances at success.
They will be more tolerant of problems with water quality and often will eat most prepared foods.

How To Successfully Switch From Freshwater To Saltwater Aquarium

"How To Successfully Switch From Freshwater To Saltwater Aquarium"," There are a greater variety of fish that can be kept in a saltwater aquarium as also plants and coral too.
Many people would love to have a saltwater aquarium but the myths of switching from fresh to saltwater dissuades them from doing so.
Most of the equipment is the same with just a few exceptions to the rule.
Saltwater aquarium fish prefer a substrate composed of live sand and a lot of crushed coral as opposed to the gravel that freshwater fish are used to.
Remember that the water filtering system works on the principle of circulating water through the tank.

Lighting in the saltwater tank is of importance only if you are planning to add plants and coral to the tank.
A common mistake many aquarium enthusiasts make while converting from freshwater to saltwater is to add a little table salt to the water.
This will kill the coral and plants as well as the fish.

When you transit from a freshwater tank to a salt water tank go to the pet store and get some substrate from the saltwater tanks there.

You must also remember that saltwater causes a lot of rusting to occur in the tank and do you should be ready to regularly clean out tank equipment at least twice a month.

Feeding saltwater fish is very different from feeding freshwater fish.
Never keep frozen food in your freezer for more than 3 months.
It might sound like a lot of work to maintain a saltwater aquarium, however, once you are there you will discover that the joys are many and the work is not too much.

Enjoy The Beauty Of A Saltwater Aquarium

"Enjoy The Beauty Of A Saltwater Aquarium","  Knowing the difference between the two with respect to cost, maintenance, etc.

Setting up a freshwater aquarium is cheaper and maintenance is easier than a saltwater aquarium.

Freshwater fish are overall more adaptable than marine fish.
Temperature, nitrate, salinity, ammonia and pH always have to be at the appropriate levels.
Marine plants are also pricier because harvesting is more difficult.
After a while, you will have a beautiful tank, excellent for soothing the senses and relieving stress.
To ensure proper salinity in your saltwater aquarium, a hydrometer is necessary, but also inexpensive.

Whatever aquarium you have, always buy good quality commercially prepared foods and never overfeed your fish.
Pathogenic organisms could be introduced into your tank, so it is advisable to keep away from live foods.
Quite a number of fish are not suitable for captivity.
Buy from a reputable dealer, do your homework before you buy and avoid buying species that will not do well in captivity.
Some fish also tend to bully others.
Should you notice aggressive behavior, you must be prepared to separate fish.

As an example of an exotic fish, many people think of the Moorish Idol as an ideal aquarium fish.
It is better to settle for the nearly identical Banner fish, which will live a long and happy life in captivity if given proper care.
If you establish a routine, you should be able to relax and admire your aquarium at any time.
Check fish for any signs of problems

Weekly: Check pH and other levels.
Check equipment such as heater, etc.
 Check lighting equipment, etc.
Aerate well and check all levels before adding to tank.

An Introduction to the Saltwater Aquarium - Part 2

"An Introduction to the Saltwater Aquarium - Part 2"," Some aquarists are intrigued by the challenged.
Most aquarists are however keeping saltwater aquariums simply because they are fascinated by marine life forms.

Some of the most colourful fish species in the world are for instance marine species that must be kept in saltwater.
In addition to fish, you can for instance keep corals, anemones, marine crustaceans and weird and wonderful animals like jellyfish and octopuses.
The abbreviation FO stands for Fish Only while FWLR means Fish With Live Rock.
The reef aquarium is generally considered to be the most complicated of the three main forms of aquarium.
Focus is instead placed on various forms of delicate corals.
When you arrange your saltwater aquarium, it is very important to you only select equipment and decorations suitable for saltwater use.
An item that would be safe to use in a freshwater aquarium can therefore be unsuitable for a marine aquarium.
A piece of aquarium decoration that excretes a tiny amount of a dangerous compound can be enough to kill many marine life forms.

By using quite a large aquarium, you will also make it easier to maintain a stable environment with low levels of soluble waste.
You can decrease the biolode by never over-feeding your aquarium inhabitants.
It is also common for saltwater aquarists to introduce scavenging organisms to the aquarium since these animals will consume scraps of food before it starts to decay and pollute the water.

Hobby into Business

I want to turn my Hobby into a Business, My only hangup would be the money to get the building and supplies. I have the knowledge, and business experience, and I want to open a Tropical fish store. Tropical fish have been a hobby of mine for almost 50 years now and now that I'm retired with nothing to do I would like to start a small business and teach others the fine art of keeping and raising. Tropical Fish.
I believe I would be good at it because I have a lot of experience in the Business Arena and a lot of experience in the keeping, raising, breeding and all around care of Tropical fish, and other animals, personally I have successfully bred and raised a large variety of Tropical Fish which I believe is the key to a successful
Tropical Fish Store, If you can raise and sell your own products you can make more profits and be more successful.
I have enough experience on the internet and computer to do my own Flyers and business cards, also will be able to advertize on line and also sell online overstocked fish. A great example would be raising and selling a popular fish the Oscar a mated pair can produce more than 2500 fry per year and the babies at 3 Months old can sell for more than $2.00 each in the store and $1.00 each on the net to other fish stores throughout the world. If the store sells 10% at a avg of $2.00 thats $500 per year plus the other 90% can be sold on the internet for $1.00 each or $2,250.00 so a mated pair of oscars will net you a bare minimum of $2,750 per year and thats just the Oscars. and the bigger they are the higher the price. Now take into consideration all the other fish that can be mated and raised for hardly any money at all and you will quickly see why tropical fish can bring in huge profits if you can raise your own to sell  Some are easy to raise and others are hard  here a list of the ones I have mated and raised to adult fish. Oscars, Jack Dempseys, Mollies, Guppys, Tetras, Angels, Bettas, Gouramis, Convicts, and several others.
What I need to start my business would be first and last month rent at 1500 per month or $3000 the electric to get cut on will run about $400 a month the water about $60  and miscellaneous charges around $150  to buy all the supplise to get started will run about $6000. I believe I can open the Doors for less than $10000.00 and make a profit each and every month.
To promote the opening of the store for a month i need 30 - 10gal tanks about $8 each for giveaway the tanks are bare with nothing else.limit one per household and with purchase of $20 or more. most people who want a tank will spend and avg of $50 or more on supplies and fish to put in the tank. they need filters, thermometer, gravel, plants, fish, tops(light), and of coarse fish food. they will be back for more food, fish light bulbs, slate, water conditioner, and information. some will give it up but others like me will buy more and more trying to learn the hobby. and thats how I intend to turn my hobby into business. any investers out there can contact Mr. Davis at davisrld123046@aol.com  and if you want to see more of my fish go to http://www.ronjohnsite.com/

Sage Fly Fishing Rod

When you buy a Sage fly fishing rod you can be sure of getting a couple of real advantages. First and foremost, such rods help ensure that you can turn over as well as cast accurately- even with bulky as well as wind resistant flies and do so without feeling tired or frustrated. And, secondly you get to fight fish more effectively, quickly as well as with authority and power. The Smallmouth Bass Sage fly fishing rods are the ultimate when it concerns landing bass.

There is also another headache to using such reels and that is changing the spools is very time consuming and also very painful. This particular Sage fly fishing rod is very, very powerful and at the same time exceedingly light and it is only seven feet eleven inches that ensure that it adheres to Bass tournament length specifications. If it is turning over big sized flies and catching the biggest fish in the water that you wish to do then this Sage fly fishing rod is the one to use.

The term Smallmouth is a bit of a misnomer because this Sage fly fishing rod is very powerful and will easily handle White Bass, Smallie and largemouth as well as a variety of other saltwater fish species. The best thing about using this Sage fly fishing rod is that casting with it is virtually effortless and when it concerns fighting a Bronzeback you will find that the Sage fly fishing rod puts the other competing models into the shade.

And, if you are interested in saltwater fly fishing then you must certainly not risk using an automatic fly fishing reel and in fact, it is only the very foolhardy anglers that would attempt using such reels when they are doing saltwater fishing. Its rod weight is three and a half ounces and the handle is made from Portuguese cork and the reel seat is matte black aluminum big game that comes with double locking retainer. Best of all, this Sage fly fishing rod is exceedingly fast and very, very stiff as well.

No doubt, in the recent past much improvements have helped to improve the functioning of the automatic fly fishing reel; but, if you are really serious about your fly fishing you would do well to steer clear of the automatic fly fishing reel. When it concerns buying a discount fly fishing rod you should realize at the very outset that manufacturers do not create discount rods. They only sell their rods to retailers who have the option of selling their rods at retail prices or at discounted rates.

Basic Information About Taking Care Of Fishes In Custom Aquariums

Custom aquariums permit you to develop exactly the type of fish group you want to own. Not only can you often determine the size and shape but you additionally get more input on the way you are going to populate your brand-new equipment.

Do not rush into making decisions. It's best to always speak to knowledgeable fish owners to see what they advise. Until you've gotten many years of experience looking after these pets, you'll make mistakes and regrettably this could result in the demise or injury to the fish.

Don't forget to try to replicate a little of the fishes natural habitats when setting up custom aquariums. Just as humans are all different so are fish. A few will love swimming around all day whereas others will want to hide somewhere until the tank becomes darker. Fish, by nature, need sanctuary when being pursued by their predators. Hopefully you would not have added any predators to your new tank however you still want to provide some shelter if only to provide a place where they really feel secure.

You cannot just bring in any old rock into custom aquariums as the shelter. The choice of rock might have an impact on the quality of the water but additionally might bring in some toxins inside your tank. They can also be dangerous. For instance some rocks look wonderful but their rough edges could injure the fish's fins. It is best to add limestone rocks to a marine fish tank since they help control the ph but they must not be part of a freshwater tank.

Once you select the right materials you could imitate caves and crevices in your fish tank. The new inhabitants would love exploring them and should be much happier as a result. By providing them with a top quality life-style you're fulfilling your obligations as a fish owner.

Keeping Fish Happy In Salt Water Aquariums

"Keeping Fish Happy In Salt Water Aquariums"," Some fish are easier to keep than others as they adapt well to captivity.
Nobody unless they are proven experts and live in a house without pets or children should house dangerous fish in their aquarium.

Sea Bass are quite popular for custom tanks because they are so beautiful.
They will also eat smaller fish so be careful who you house them with.
These fish usually demand to be fed live food so unless you can maintain this on a daily basis you may want to buy those that have been trained to accept dead food.

Some fish found in salt water aquariums like to bury themselves in sand so shouldn't be in your tank unless you have the sand in place.
One of the main issues with salt water aquariums is the fact that the fish are designed for the deep Ocean and thus their natural protection can lead to their death in captivity

How Keeping Fish Tanks in the Home Has Changed Over the Centuries

It wasn't a hobby but a way of providing fresh and saltwater varieties for the dinner table.
London Zoo opened its first public aquarium in 1853 and it became  common for wealthy Victorian families to own their own custom fish tank.
The ornate decoration was often used to hide the tubes although sometimes they were covered with drapes.
For instance, the pneumatic tire was used to store compressed air in the aquarium.
Emerging countries often paid for their development by employing their natives to catch and export different species of fish.
Strict controls are now enforced to try to prevent this happening.
Nowadays it is impossible to say how many people keep fish in their home in a custom fish tank or an ordinary aquarium.
Fish don't require your help with daily exercising!

Could Your Betta Fish Be Sick? - A Quick-Start Guide to Betta Illnesses and Symptoms

"Could Your Betta Fish Be Sick? - A Quick-Start Guide to Betta Illnesses and Symptoms"," Alternatively, you might just be new to Betta care and want to know what to look for in a sick Betta fish before it becomes a problem, in which case well done on being prepared! Either way, this article should help give you some basic information on how to get your Betta diagnosed and (hopefully) nursed back up to full health in no-time flat!

What to Look For: When it comes to sick Betta fish nothing is more effective than early identification of a disease, and since Bettas are relatively small fish it can be hard to keep tabs on their health.

Lethargy: Lethargy, or chronic laziness and lack of movement/energy, can be linked to a number of Betta fish diseases and is never a good thing.
Most Betta fish illnesses are linked to poor water quality, so make sure that your pH, oxygen, and nitrate levels are within acceptable ranges (pH should be very close to 7, oxygen 60%+, and nitrates 0), and also make sure that you are making regular water changes.

Refusal to Eat: Another symptom with numerous explanations, anyone who has owned a Betta has likely encountered this problem at one point or another.
My first Betta was used to flakes, but I had purchased pellets for him, after about a week he gave in and never again had a problem with them, so just keep trying.
Obviously, you will need to adjust your feeding amount, but to ensure a speedy recovery in the meantime one of the best things you can do is microwave a frozen pea, peal away the outer skin, and then feed your fish a small piece or two of the pea at each feeding time instead of their regular food for a few days.
Other conditions, like intestinal worms and the like that might also cause constipation, are more severe conditions that should be treated individually by various water additives if you suspect your Betta fish is sick.
 Stress
can be harmful to a Betta so it is recommended that you try to identify any loud noises, bright lights, temperature fluctuations, or irregular light/dark patterns around your Betta's tank so that they feel more comfortable.

How To Fish Without Rod and Reel

"How To Fish Without Rod and Reel"," Be it fresh or salt water. Well, there are some truth in it. With that knowledge, you will know what type of fish you can expect to catch, behavior, habit, bait types, hook sizes and line to use. My usual practice is to fish from a plat form such as fish stake or on a boat. Some example of fishes caught are grouper, sea bass, snapper, barracuda, toad fish, cat fish, Queen fish and other estuary fish. Length of line should not exceed the water depth. Any more longer will cost you time and probably your fish when you re reeling in by hand. When live baits are not available, chilled baits bought from neighborhood tackle shop is a good alternative. Somewhere between the eyes. If a bait fish is chosen, hook across the spine through the lateral line, between the dorsal fin and anal fin. The injured fish will trigger the predator to strike fast. All the recommended hooking method represent the most the baits' natural form underwater. The lead line should be about 1 to 2 feet in length, another 2 feet away from the bottom lead weight. The lead line will be flowing along with tide. It is not recommended to play with the fish. No sense risking the potential loss of fish and line. That is why I recommend about 40 feet length. So, please clear the area around you before you start fishing. CAN YOU TRUST WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO SEE

Caring For Oscar Fish

"Caring For Oscar Fish"," These fish can grow up to fourteen inches long, which makes them a handful for novice aquarium keepers -- they're definitely not starter fish. #1 - Oscar fish only like other Oscars. They won't appreciate it when mixed in with different species, and are known to attack other fish. Remember that these fish can grow to be pretty big, so make sure to give at least 30 gallons of swimming space for them. #2 - Oscar can spawn with the best of them. If you have a male and a female Oscar in the same tank, they might spawn thousands of eggs at once. $2500 per year or better if you can sell them; once fry reaches 1 inch; and you can get a quarter for each baby. #3 - Oscars need specific conditions to survive. For some reason, they also prefer sandy bottoms to gravel. Surprisingly, Oscars can also eat food scraps such as shrimp, worms, and vegetables. Oscars are great pets to have, and it's always a temptation to add another one to the fish tank. This will make sure that they'll get along swimmingly. THIS COULD CHANGE YOUR LIFE AND GIVE YOU PEACE OF MIND
